Affiliate Disclosure

Smoke Craft Lab earns money through affiliate links. This page explains exactly how, because the Federal Trade Commission requires it and because you should know before you click anything.

The short version

Some links on this site go to retailers. If you buy after clicking one, the retailer pays me a commission. Your price does not change. If you buy nothing, I earn nothing.

Which links pay

Affiliate links appear mainly in buying guides and comparison articles. Every article that contains one carries a disclosure at the top, above the first link, rather than buried at the bottom. In the page code these links are marked rel="sponsored nofollow" and open in a new tab.

Links to manufacturer documentation, research, standards bodies and forum threads are not affiliate links and earn nothing.

Which programs

The affiliate links here point to retailers and manufacturers of cooking equipment. Most of those programs are administered through affiliate networks such as Impact and CJ Affiliate.

Commission rates differ a lot between programs, and that difference is a genuine conflict of interest: some retailers pay several times what others pay for the same product. Two rules exist because of it.

First, the recommendation gets decided before the links go in. I pick the equipment from the measurements, then look up which programs happen to cover it, never the other way round.

Second, where a product is sold by more than one retailer, the article says so, including the retailers that pay me nothing.

Why there are no prices

This site does not print prices. They change constantly, and a figure that was right the week an article was written is misleading a month later. Where price matters to a recommendation, the article describes it in relative terms and sends you to the retailer for the current number.

What the commission does not buy

No manufacturer or retailer has paid for coverage here, seen an article before publication, or been given any say over a conclusion. Commission rates play no part in deciding which products get tested. If any of that ever changes, this page changes with it, on the same day.
